چکیده

We present recent results obtained by the BRAHMS experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) for the systems of Au + Au and Cu + Cu at √ s N N = 200 GeV and at 62.4 GeV, and p + p at √ s N N = 200 GeV. BRAHMS explores reaction dynamics and properties of the hot and high energy density matter produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions versus its longitudinal expansion. Overall charged particle production, particle spectra over a large rapidity interval and p T range are presented. Nuclear modification factors for Au + Au and Cu + Cu collisions are discussed. The observed number of charged particles produced per unit of rapidity in the central rapidity region indicates that a high energy density systems are produced at the initial stage of the Au + Au reaction. Analysis of anti-particle to particle ratios as a function of rapidity and collision energy reveal that particle populations at the chemical freeze-out stage for heavy-ion reactions at and above SPS energies are controlled by the baryon chemical potential. From the particle spectra we deduce significant radial expansion (β ≈ 0.75), as expected for systems created with a large initial energy density. We also measure the elliptic flow parameter v 2 versus rapidity and p T. A weak dependence on rapidity of the p T differential v 2 is observed. We present rapidity dependent p/π ratios within 0 < y < 3 for Au + Au and Cu + Cu at √ s N N = 200 GeV. The ratios are enhanced in nucleus-nucleus collisions as compared to p + p collisions. The particle ratios are discussed in terms of their system size and rapidity dependence. We compare R AA for Au + Au at √ s N N = 200 GeV and at 62.4 GeV, and for Au + Au and Cu + Cu at √ s N N = 62.4 GeV. R AA is found to increase with decreasing collision energy, decreasing system size, and when going towards more peripheral collisions. However, R AA shows only a very weak dependence on rapidity (for 0 < y < 3.2), both for pions and protons.

The ring imaging Čerenkov detector for the BRAHMS Experiment at RHIC

A ring-imaging Čerenkov counter, to be read out by four 100channel PMT’s, is a key element of the BRAHMS Experiment. We report here the most recent results obtained with a prototype tested at the BNL AGS using several radiator gases, including the heavy fluorocarbon C4F10 . Ring radii were measured for different particles (π−, μ−, e−) for momenta ranging from 2 to 12 GeV/c employing pure C4F10 ...

Particle production at RHIC energies

This paper presents recent results from the BRAHMS experiment at RHIC; including results on particle production in rapidity space extending from y=0 to y ∼ 3 and on the transverse momentum distribution of fully identified charged particles. These results were obtained from the 5% most central Au-Au collisions recorded during RHIC Run-2 at √ sNN = 200 GeV.

The Comparison of the Point-of-Care Serum Procalcitonin Assay Method with the BRAHMS Certified Method

Background and Aims: As a method for the diagnosis and management of sepsis, the serum procalcitonin assay is routinely used, especially in the emergency department (ED) and intensive care units (ICU). Procalcitonin has reasonable diagnostic accuracy for bacteremia in hospitalized patients of all age groups with suspected infection or sepsis. This study aimed to compare the Getein Biotech proca...

Overview and Recent Results from BRAHMS

The BRAHMS experiment was designed to measure and characterize in particular the properties of rapidity dependence of particle production in heavy ion collisions. The data-taking is now over, results of several years of analysis have been published and demonstrates several important features of the rapidity dependence, not envisioned from the start of the RHIC program. The bulk properties of th...

The BRAHMS experiment at RHIC has the capability to measure the transverese spin asymmetries in polarized pp induced pion production at RHIC. The first results from a short run show a signaificant asymmetry for π + and π − at moderate x F. The trend of the data is in agreement with lower energy data while the absolute value are surprisingly large.
